Fitzwilliam Museum (7 km) - The Fitzwilliam Museum is the art museum of the University of Cambridge and one of the oldest public museums in Britain. Exhibits include ancient art and sculpture, furniture and rugs as well as masterpieces by painters including Picasso, Monet and Constable. The fitzwilliam Museum has recently undergone a £12 million courtyard development, creating a new public space spread over four floors and featuring temporary exhibitions, medieval and renaissance art and 20th and 21st century art. The development saw the museum shortlisted for the 2005 Gulbenkian Prize for museum of the year

The nearest car park is at Lion Yard, off Pembroke Street. Limited Pay and Display and disabled badge holder parking is available on Trumpington Street.

Anglesey Abbey, Gardens & Lode Mill (3 km) - A medieval undercroft has survived from the priory founded here in 1135, but the house dates mainly from 1600. Thomas Hobson of Hobson's Choice was one of the owners. A later owner was Lord Fairhaven, who amassed the huge collection of pictures, and laid Cambridge University Botanic Garden (7 km) - The Cambridge University Botanic Garden is a 40-acre oasis of beautifully landscaped gardens and glasshouses close to the heart of the historic city. Opened on its present site in 1846, the garden showcases a collection of some 8000 plant species

Wimpole Home Farm (20 km) - When built in 1794, Wimpole Home Farm was one of the most advanced agricultural enterprises in the country. The Great Barn, now restored, holds a display of farm machinery and implements of the kind used at Wimpole over the past two centuries. On the farm visitors can see many rare breeds of horses, cattle, sheep, pigs and poultry and enjoy a range of activities such as grooming the donkeys and collecting eggs. Refreshments are available

Wimpole Home Farm is situated about 8 miles south west of Cambridge. Exit the M11 at junction 12 Wimpole Hall (20 km) - Wimpole Hall is one of the grandest mansions in East Anglia, and has 360 acres of parkland devised and planted by no less than four celebrated landscape designers, Charles Bridgeman, `Capability' Brown, Sanderson Miller and Humphrey Repton. The house was first built in 1643 Linton Zoo (14 km) - Linton Zoo places emphasis on conservation and education where visitors can see a combination of beautiful gardens and a wealth of wildlife from all over the world. There are many rare and exotic creatures to see including tapirs, snow leopards and tigers

University Museum of Archaeology & Anthropology (7 km) - The museum is part of the Faculty of Archaeology and Anthropology of the University of Cambridge. It was established in 1884 and is still housed in its 1916 building on the Downing Site in the city centre. It has three floors displaying renowned archaeological and anthropological collections from around the world

National Horseracing Museum and Tours (13 km) - This friendly award-winning museum tells the story of the people and horses involved in racing in Britain. Have a go on the horse simulator in the hands-on gallery and chat to retired jockey's and trainers about their experiences. Special mini bus tours

Cambridge & County Folk Museum (7 km) - This timber-framed inn houses items covering the everyday life of the people of Cambridgeshire from the 17th century to the present day. There are also temporary exhibitions. Special exhibitions and children's activity days take place throughout the year.

Directions:
From London South: Take junction 11 on the M11 (Cambridge South). At the roundabout, turn right towards Cambridge Town Centre and go through Trumpington Village. Once at the Royal Cambridge Hotel at the first mini roundabout, go straight over and at the second mini roundabout, turn right. Go straight over the set of traffic lights and the Gonville Hotel is 50 yards on the right.
